Stuck? Here’s some motivation!

Have you ever had times where you felt stuck in a rut? Do you feel like you haven’t made any progress towards a goal you set or feel like you should be farther along than you are? Well those were my sentiments exactly recently when I thought about my healthy living/weight loss journey. At times when I feel discouraged about my journey taking longer than expected, I like to do 3 key things to get myself back on track.

1. Prayer and meditation- The key for me to be successful in any task is to pray and meditate on the things I want to accomplish. The greatest battlefield in life is the mind so if your mind is cluttered with negative thoughts then eventually you will start to spew negativity. I pray for patience a LOT! I am very impatient most of the time like many people in this microwave society. I want things NOW but I have to keep reminding myself that some things take time.

2. Positive affirmations-My faith has taught me that I should believe what I pray for (Mark 11:24 NIV Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.) So I continually try to think positive thoughts and believe what I have prayed for will come to pass. Sometimes you have to encourage yourself. Believe in yourself. Pat your own self on the back for a job well done. It does wonders for the mind and the self esteem. I also like to speak little one line boosters as I like to call them. For instance “I will lose this weight or I will have a great day”. I figure if I say it enough, my mind will believe it and it will have no choice but to come to pass.

3. Visual encouragement- This is one of my favorite things to do in life. Of course being a creative individual I like to create collages, vision boards, etc to bring my goals to life. This week I created a collage to show where I started in my weight loss journey to where I am currently in my weight loss journey. Surprisingly enough I didn’t realize how much my looks have changed! I don’t know how that happened but thank God for whoever invented the camera! Creating this collage was a great motivator for me to continue on my journey to reach and maintain a healthy BMI no matter how long it takes.

What do you do to get yourself out of a rut? I would love to hear about it.
