Sleepwear as Outerwear

This month I decided to do something a bit different and create 20 grab-and-go outfits with pieces that I love but rarely reach for in my wardrobe. It was super fun but extremely laborious due to all the ironing and steaming involved. I’m hopeful that my future self will thank me on those early mornings that I am in a rush to get out of the house. Today’s featured outfit is all about this cute bathrobe that I recently purchased from World Market. The beautiful pastel colors in the garment intrigued me. I thought it was a fancy kimono when I pulled it from the rack. To my surprise, the tag stated it was pajamas.

Well “not on my watch. Not today, no, no, no.”

Who remembers that commercial? Anywho, here is how I took this piece of sleepwear from a bedside piece to boho chic with a couple of colorful and pieces and some natural rattan accessories. I wore this outfit to the ophthalmologist’s office and got a few nice compliments about the look. Some even asked me if I had big plans for rest of the day. The nurses seemed shocked when I said I was just going back home to finish binge-watching Manifest on Netflix. I got the impression that they thought I was a bit overdressed for a doctor’s appointment. Can one really ever be overdressed though?

This year I plan to take the limits off the garments I love and wear them however I please. Life is too short to only wear pieces how they are intended. Plus you get more bang for your buck when you wear things in your wardrobe in a myriad of ways. Forget the label and wear the pajamas in public friends. Make sure they are not see-through though ’cause you know the whole indecent exposure thing is illegal.

Would you consider wearing sleepwear as outerwear? If so, what piece would you take for a spin outdoors? If not, let’s chat about it.
