I’m Still Alive :) A Quick Life Update

Guess who’s back, back, back. Back again…Brittany’s back! Tell a friend.

Happy New Year guys! I can’t tell you how much I have missed writing on my blog. Life was life-ing and I didn’t have the time, energy, or motivation to write anything. I am hoping and praying that this year will be much different. So where should I start? Let’s chat a bit about life, travel, and style. Get yourself a cup of something nice and get settled in because we have a lot of catching up to do.

Life In General.

Whew chileeee. Listen! Last year was a bit of a rollercoaster. It was somewhat challenging health wise but I am claiming that this year will be much better as I have become a lot more health conscious over the past few months. My asthma and allergies were on level 100 during the spring and summer. Then Autumn said hold my drink and hit me with not one, not two, but three respiratory illnesses back to back- one of which was Covid.

It took me until mid December to get back to feeling like myself. As soon as I thought I was on the mend, I cracked a tooth, had an x-ray to determine if the tooth could be saved which lead to the need for a CT scan and subsequent discovery for the need for oral surgery. I had the surgery on January 4th so I’m still in recovery mode. I’m doing pretty well though. Fingers crossed that I will continue on an upward trajectory.

Exciting Changes.

I am now a weekend resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico due to the hubs new job. It’s such a beautiful area with all of the mountains and pueblos. Fun fact, I was terrified of riding in the mountains until last November. It’s at least tolerable now.

But let me tell you something flying out of Albuquerque, New Mexico is an entirely different story. It feels like the pilots are literally fighting the wind for our lives!! I am still traumatized from the last flight out of there so I might be grounded in Dallas for a while.

Other than that life has been grand. I witnessed some beautiful moments in 2023. I was a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding. Two of my godchildren graduated high school and are now college students. I spent quality time with so many of my family members throughout the year for joyous and sad occasions. FinalIy, I witnessed several large groups of my nursing students graduate and become nurses which is the most rewarding aspect of my job.

Travel.

I went so many cool places in 2023. As you may remember from my past blog posts, the hubs and I are trying to visit all 50 states by age 50. I am currently at 26 states and counting. I would love to make it to the Pacific Northwest this year- primarily Washington and Oregon. Those 2 states have been on my bucket list for a while now! If you have any tips on things to do in Seattle or Portland, let me know. Colorado and Arizona may also make the bucket list for 2024. Let’s see how the year pans out.

I am also turning the big four-OH this year so I would love to go somewhere international to celebrate. I am considering a trip to the South of France, Italy, and Spain or to Lisbon, Portugal but I haven’t decided if I will be able to muster up the courage to take a long international flight. The longest flight I have taken thus far was from Honolulu to Las Vegas which was around 5 hours and 45 minutes and I was soooo READY to get off that plane. I do not like flying. I’d rather drive any day. Mexico City or Canada may be my contingency plan.

Style.

Surprisingly enough, my style over the past year has transformed significantly. I am 100% team comfort now. My collection of heels now competes with my collection of Nike Air Max sneakers. I am officially a sneakerhead. Most of my looks now revolve around the comfort of the shoes. Hello age 40 is that you peeping around the bend? My style is also a little more subdued now. It’s not what I would consider fashion forward but it is very practical and stylish.

I have also developed a deeper interest in interior design over the past year. My home has also been going through a style evolution as well to include more art, color, and textures throughout the space. I am curating such a unique environment and it has been so much fun! I would love to share more of this journey with you guys if you’re interested in home decor. My goal is to have a mix of artsy and contemporary decor.

I could write all day but I will end it here since I’m starting to feel like that person who never lets another person get a word in edge wise lol. So tell me, what’s new in your life? How was your 2023? I want to hear all about it!

A special shout out to my friends and loyal subscribers who reached out frequently in my DMs and encouraged me to start back writing on the blog. I heard you and promise to do better in producing content this year. Let me know what you guys would like to read about in 2024.

Much love, Brittany xo
