Wellness Wednesday

My desire to maintain my health has been a long time coming. I realized in nursing school while doing a genogram of illnesses that run in my family that I was doomed to have some type of chronic illness that would takeover my life starting around middle adulthood. I am determined not to let that happen! I was slack for a while but it seems that the closer I get to 30, the more motivated I become to be healthy. I set a goal this year that I would finally reach my goal weight of 136 lbs and maintain it by eating a healthy diet and working out. I am happy to report that I met that goal last week *happy dance*. That has definitely been one of the highlights of my year thus far. So now comes the difficult part- keeping the weight off. It is a work in progress but I am committed to my health.

One of the main things I have been doing to maintain my weight is drinking a lot of bottled water- that was until today when my world was turned upside down. I watched a very informative documentary about bottled water entitled “Tapped” that made me vow to never purchase another bottle of water (as long as I have the choice)! If you have not seen that documentary, I would highly recommend it. You wouldn’t think that the one thing you have heard is so great for your health could be the one thing that could potentially be toxic to your health because of all of the toxins and contaminants that could be floating in your water. But sadly after watching this movie I realized I may have done more harm than good by drinking bottled water. Did you know that the FDA requires the bottled water manufacturers to do their own testing and reporting- not the FDA?! I thought their sole purpose was supposed to be to protect the consumer but apparently I was mistaken. I may sound like a conspiracy theorist but I have a feeling that this is the reason why the cancer rate in the US has seemed to quadruple in recent years. I remember when I was a teenager I hardly heard of anyone having cancer. Now it seems like at least 1 out of 5 people has or knows someone with cancer. Disclaimer:This is just a speculation, so please do not get all in a tizzy! If you drink bottled water as frequently as I did, be sure to check out this documentary on Netflix, Amazon, etc. I was so ticked off after watching this movie that I immediately poured out the bottled water that I was sipping on.

Of course I’m not going to stop drinking water altogether but I am definitely going to buy a GLASS bottle for travel and a filtered pitcher for my water and work it out. I may even try out one of those filtered water bottles. If anyone knows a good water bottle, please leave a comment down below. If you watch this video, I would love to hear your thoughts! Also if you have any tips on how to maintain weight PLEASE share!
