A few months ago, I stumbled upon the cutest ski suit at the thrift store. The bright turquoise color appealed to me and the B zipper pulls made me feel like it had been waiting on the rack just for me. I rushed to try it on and to my surprise the ski suit fit! I went back and forth in the fitting room trying to decide whether I should buy it or not. The practical side of me said, “girl you live in Texas where the winter season is pretty mild and you have no plans to go skiing at any point in the near future. Leave this ski suit here. ” The creative side of me said “I love this! It’s such a cool piece and it’s only 2 bucks. You should buy it.” After much consideration, my right brain won and the ski suit made it to my shopping bag and eventually to my closet.
Every time I opened my closet door, that vibrant blue ski suit called out to me. Finally I answered the call.
I decided to create a look that could be worn beyond the slopes. Apparently, I was going for the 2020 version of a Power Ranger and your girl delivered some mighty morphin’ 90s realness with this outfit. I love the contrast of the vibrant blue hues against the rugged black boots and black turtleneck. I limited the accessories to simple silver hoops with this look because it was already doing a lot.
Sometimes we wait for special occasions or the perfect environment to wear items we love. In reality, all we really need to do is take the limitations off our wardrobe and allow our creativity to flow. Who cares if you’re the weird girl wearing a ski suit in the middle of winter without a mountain in sight! Own it. You’ll be warm while doing it.
Today I’m challenging all of you to pull out an item from your closet that you love but have “no where to wear it”. Get creative and wear it to do a normal day to day activity. Reimagine that formal dress you love and wear it to your neighborhood coffee shop. Do what makes you happy. Wear what makes you happy. Life is too short to be limited by societal norms. Be different.
