I have a thing for numbers. If you tell me a number once or twice I can usually remember it. My family and friends like to use this skill to their advantage. Thank God I’m not a criminal. When I thought about today’s date 3.14.15 I instantly thought that’s PI! I did a little research and found out the today has officially been dubbed Pi Day around the world ! On 3.14.15 at 9:26:53 one of the popular sequences of the numbers will be represented for the only time during this century! Pretty neat, right? Math and science lovers I know you feel me.
Here are some (possibly useless) facts about Pi:
- Pi was the name of a character in the movie Life of Pi. Oh I guess that’s not the same thing.
- Pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to it’s diameter. I’ve never had to use this fact in my adult life. Have you?
- Pi is the 16th letter in the Greek alphabet that represents {P}. This may be significant to sororities and fraternities and Greek people.
- Leonardo Di Caprio spent a lot of time trying to approximate pi aka trying to “square the circle”. Just kidding it was Leonardo da Vinci. Then he said forget this crap and painted the Mona Lisa instead.
So you see guys Pi is a big deal! Not really, but it gives us all a reason to eat pie today (a slice not the whole thing!) or run a Pi-K marathon (3.14 miles for those of you who have learned nothing from my ramblings about a number!).
So how are you planning to celebrate today? I think I will research where I can get the best slice of apple pie in Houston because I’m not running anywhere! What’s your favorite type of pie? Yum pie!
Stay inspired,
Brittany
