Overall DC was ahhh-ma-zing!! My favorite day was our last day in the city. We woke up early with big plans to visit all the historic national monuments. We almost accomplished that feat. At the end of the day, we were completely worn out but it was definitely worth it. We will have memories to last a lifetime. I will definitely would like to visit the city again sometime in the near future. In the meantime, we have some awesome photos to commemorate the experience. And since you guys are my buddies I figured I would share them with you. Enjoy!
Had the best barbecue east of Texas @ Hill Country Barbecue in Downtown DC. The brisket sandwich was the business!
Had a blast at the International Spy Museum. That’s my spy face if you’re wondering.
Took a QUICK break on the grounds of the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden. I loved this sculpture.
Chilling in front of the US Capitol. We were there during Police Week so there were a lot of events in their honor. We picked the best week to be in DC as far as safety as concerned. There were police officers EVERYWHERE.
Day 2: We went on a tour of the US Capitol.
Shameless selfie while waiting to take the guided Capitol tour. Everyone had a pair of headphones so we could hear the guide clearly.
Miss Rosa Parks- Mother of the Civil Rights Movement
Statues of the former Presidents
Cool story about this mural in the dome of the Capitol. I won’t tell it but if you look closely at the tree you can see the face of the rebel artist who painted this section.
Had to share this photo. George Washington reminded me of a pimp in this for some reason. Maybe because he is surrounded by all these women and is holding a cane LOL.
Isn’t the architecture in this building amazing?! The mural of GW has 13 women to portray the original 13 states.
Love this statue. It was so large and enchanting. Although I really don’t know it’s meaning. I will have to research it.
Practicing my pose for when I take over Vanna White’s job when she retires 🙂 Hey I will flip those letters wearing those fabulous dresses and a smile for 4 million a year!
The beautiful arches in the Library of Congress gave the Capitol building a run for it’s money is the category of beautiful architecture. I loved it!
Did I mention we walked a lot in DC? Well we walked 2.5 miles just to get to the historic Union Station.
Watched a dance contest in Union station sponsored by the DC Lottery. These guys were awesome and they won $250 a piece!
Smithsonian National Postal Museum- the quietest place we visited the entire trip.
I thought it was cool that the models on the stamps for Madagascar had cornrows. Too cute!
From 4 cents to almost 50 cents….
Then off to the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum. Here is a replica of the USS Enterprise.
All those dials and gages to watch! If I were a pilot, we would be going down! Or worse we probably wouldn’t even take off!
Flight attendant uniforms back in the 60’s. I don’t understand the red hat. Looks like a matador outfit rather than a flight attendant.
If you were ever curious as to how astronauts go to the bathroom in space….well here is your answer. Apparently there is some suction involved.
Now on to the good stuff. Passed this Smithsonian on the way to the White House. Loved the architecture. Can you spot a theme here?
That famous street address. You know the one where the POTUS lives.
People playing street hockey next to the White House. They were intense.
The White House
People protesting all kind of stuff in front of the White House.
Hot and sweaty after walking the city in 80 degree weather with fall attire. Tip: Never fully trust a weather report when packing for an extended vacation. Pack options!
Love the lashes on this cute ice cream truck.
Day 3: We went back to the Capitol building so that hubby could capture all the photos he wanted on our last day. I was feeling pretty horrible this day honestly because my allergies were in overdrive. That wasn’t going to stop me though! We were determined to see all the sights on our list.
Sitting at a fountain on the Capitol grounds while hubby took all his photos. There was a lot of sitting for me this day.
And again…multitasking this time. Sitting, drinking, and chatting to my BFF on the phone at the Capitol reflecting pool.
Cute name for a pizza joint.
We walked all the way to Capitol Hill for this pizza. It’s a good thing it lived up to the hype. It was by far the best veggie pizza ever! Who needs meat when you can a slice of awesome spinach and artichoke pizza ?!
Cute ducks my hubby captured at the reflecting pool at the National Mall. I love this photo. It reminds me of me and my students at the beginning of each semester.
My favorite photo from the entire trip! JC is an awesome photographer. And of course I am sitting yet again.
My hubby and I were having a battle of the dueling cameras. I was trying to take his photo and he kept taking mine instead of posing. Slacker LOL!
These steps right here….whew! They were seriously almost the death of me after walking all morning.
Hello Abe!
Washington Monument- currently being restored
I was so happy to finally get to see this statue in person! I love MLK, Jr. Such an inspirational person and monument.
The other side of the White House. Can you see all the people doing surveillance on the roof?
Last supper in DC. Loved the British take on fish and chips at a cute little pub called Elephant & Castle in Downtown DC!
Tried Chipotle for the first time in the airport in DC. I had been missing out!!
In the Super Shuttle heading to the airport for NYC. Bye bye DC! You will be missed 🙂
