The DIY headboard revamped!

If you have been following my blog for a while you may remember my post about the D.I.Y. headboard that I created back in July. If not, you can see it here. I loved its originality but I am a free spirit that happens to love change so the unique postcard pattern was short lived. I thought about just changing my comforter set but of course that would be too easy, so I decided to change the fabric on the headboard instead…and I added an upgrade 🙂 I was inspired to redo my headboard after our trip to fabulous Las Vegas back in September. We stayed at the Hilton Elara hotel for a couple of days and I fell in love with the design of the headboard on the bed! It was so unique,  chic and edgy, kind of rockstar-ish (yes I just made that word up. In the words of Sheree from RHOA “who gon’ check me boo?” LOL!) Here is a photo of it.

Isn’t she beautiful?! My husband and I both agreed once we purchased our own home that we want to do something similar in our bedroom. We loved the fact that the lights were built into the headboard. We also liked that it was a leather material. I couldn’t stop thinking about this headboard on our flight home (I know I’m strange and you love it haha!) so of course I had to figure out a way that I could implement a version of this idea now….you know to take it for a test drive.  In October I went to Hancock Fabrics on the hunt for a new fabric! Unfortunately I couldn’t find leather and so I found a fabric more in tune with both my husband’s and my taste- a charcoal grey tweed fabric. I saw it in the store and I was sold!

Fast forward to Black Friday…after 2 months of wanting to redo the headboard, I finally had the time. I was so excited that I didn’t even remove the old fabric…very slack I know. I just pinned the fabric onto the old fabric and started stapling. It took about 30 minutes to get everything stapled down. Of course I couldn’t stop there because I wanted the lights! So I took some LED lights that my husband “intended on” putting in our built in bookshelf and stole borrowed them for my project (he wasn’t going to use them anyway). I forgot to take a picture but they are like these found at Ikea. Only difference is that our lights can change to several different colors.

And that’s it! All that was left to do was to reattach the headboard to the wall and plug in the lights. Thanks for reading! See you guys next post!

Gotcha! Of course I wouldn’t leave you all hanging like that. Here is a picture of the final product:

The fun thing about the headboard is that the lights can change colors continuously or you can set them to a certain color.

Side note: Every time I turn the light to green, I always seem to start dancing and singing John Legend’s song “Green Light” LOL!

The colors also change to purple, blue, and white. I happen to love the blue light. It is so calming right before bed time. I tried to capture the essence of the headboard in the dark with my camera but of course the photos don’t do it much justice. Here is the best one I could get.

I know its not as fabulous as the Las Vegas hotel headboard but it is fabulous in its own right. It has definitely become one of my favorite things in our bedroom. Hope you all enjoyed this post. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think. Which headboard do you like better the postcard or the lighted tweed?

Until next post,

Brittany
