I Can’t with the Pant!

I have come to the realization that pants really aren’t for me. I have tried to make them work on my small frame for many years now but to no avail. So I am considering giving them up for good.

Here are the reasons why:

  • I am a mere 5 feet tall. Some pants make me look like I have very stumpy legs. In reality I have long legs and a short torso.
  • I have larger hips and thighs, a small derriere and a small waist. So I usually end up with pants that fit snugly around the hips but extremely large at the waist.
  • When I try to belt the pants at the waist  I end up with saggy front syndrome. I have tried to go down a size but then I just end up doing this number in the fitting room.

  • Petite pants are weirdly shaped in my opinion so I have haven’t been able to find a great fitting pair.
  • I am too lazy to keep getting pants tailored to fit me properly + it’s not very cost effective to keep spending money on alterations.
  • I could settle for leggings but don’t want to live in leggings for the rest of my life.
  • I have great legs and the pant does them no justice!

So with all that being said, I am waving the white flag. When I begin shopping again, I will be purchasing dresses. Dresses are easier anyway. All you have to do is slip one on, pair it with a few accessories, some fun shoes and you’re good to go! I don’t know why I didn’t think of this transition sooner.

Could you transition to a dress only wardrobe? Do you know someone who wears only dresses?

wow sounds difficult! I’m on the more avg height/tall end as I’m 5’6 and even some pants fit me really long as well so I can totally understand. Sucks about them not fitting properly in the waist. Have you tried getting your pants tailored? It’s not as expensive as you would think, esp if you find someone at a local swap meet who can do it!

I have had a few pants tailored in the past. I usually end up paying anywhere from $35-40 depending on how much I have to get the waist taken in or how much hemming they have to do. It’s expensive on top of the cost of pant! I will probably keep what I have but I don’t plan to buy anymore.

I love dresses and skirts. They hide any flaws more easily. I’ve always had an hourglass figure and it can be difficult to find pants that fit my waist and derriere/hips. I usually look for lower-waisted pants because when they sit lower, they fit better. That said, you are teeny-tiny at 5’0″ and I can totally understand your frustration! Even at my height, 5’6″, it is frustrating that a lot of pants, especially jeans, have such long inseams.

I agree dresses and skirts are more flattering. I hope I can find some pretty ones that will transition from season to season easily.

I am considering going to a dress only wardrobe and was wondering if you had an update regarding your progress. Thanks.

Hi Nikita! I actually have not transitioned yet but it is my goal for next month. I have been doing a no shopping challenge over the last 5 months. I would like to update my wardrobe first because I lost weight and most of my dresses are a bit big now. I plan to keep you guys informed once I make the transition.
