Conquer Your Fears, Change Your Mind!

According to Wikipedia, “Fear is an emotion induced by a perceived threat which causes entities to quickly pull far away from it and usually hide. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus such as pain or the threat of danger.”  This definition offers insight into this emotion as well as a simple solution to manage fear- just change your perception! I know it’s easier said than done but one must start somewhere in order to conquer this beast we call fear.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes about fear. It is my hope that someone may find them beneficial in changing their perception about fear. After all, there will be less room for negative or fearful thoughts if positive thoughts abound.

no fear

“You can conquer almost any fear if you will only make up your mind to do so. For remember, fear doesn’t exist anywhere except the mind.” ~ Dale Carnegie

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” ~2 Timothy 1:7

” Fear is not real. The only place that fear can exist is in our thoughts of the future. It is a product of our imagination causing us to fear things that do not at present and may not ever exist. That is near insanity. Now do not misunderstand me. Danger is very real but fear is a choice.” ~Will Smith in the movie “After Earth”

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” ~Isaiah 41:10

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. “~ Psalm 23

“To fight fear, act. To increase fear, wait, put off, postpone.” ~ David Joseph Schwartz

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” ~ Deuteronomy 31:6

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”  ~Frank Hubert, Dune

“Expose yourself to your deepest fear; after that, fear has no power, and the fear of freedom shrinks and vanishes. You are free.” ~Jim Morrison

“I must say a word about fear. It is life’s only true opponent. Only fear can defeat life. It is a clever, treacherous adversary, how well I know. It has no decency, respects no law or convention, shows no mercy. It goes for your weakest spot, which it finds with unnerving ease. It begins in your mind, always … so you must fight hard to express it. You must fight hard to shine the light of words upon it. Because if you don’t, if your fear becomes a wordless darkness that you avoid, perhaps even manage to forget, you open yourself to further attacks of fear because you never truly fought the opponent who defeated you.”  ~ Yann Martel, Life of Pi

With all that being said, fight your fears! You will thank yourself in the end. I pray you all have a wonderful week.
