C is for Concert!

On Saturday August 31, my hubby and I decided to go on our “C” date from the ABC Date Night Challenge. It was his turn to decide on our dating destination/activity so he surprised me with AWESOME seats to the “Woman of Purpose” concert at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. It was an amazing charity event which was held to benefit the organization Autism Speaks.

This concert was star studded. Comedians Steve Harvey and Akintunde kept us laughing as they hosted the event. Artists such as Joe, BabyFace, Mary Mary, Kim Burrell and Jennifer Hudson blew us away with their astounding vocals. Other celebs such as Emmitt & Pat Smith, Evelyn Braxton, Tisha Campbell- Martin, and Holly Robinson Peete were there to raise awareness about this disease. I absolutely love attending meaningful events. We were able to have an amazing time together for a great charity. I call that a win-win situation! Since my seats were centrally located, I was able to get great photos as well- that is until my battery died.

Mary Mary are a powerful duo in person. They have the ability to trigger a jubilant praise to God as soon as they open their mouth. You just have to dance and sing along whenever they are on the stage.

Surprisingly I was not impressed by Brandy's performance. I used to love her music when I was younger. Her new sound does not connect with me.

Loved the duet between Joe and Kim Burrell. They sounded amazing together. They should really consider doing a project together.

Oh my goodness! Kim Burrell has an spectacular voice. My hubby says that she sings like she has an organ in her throat LOL. She definitely has a very wide vocal range and she is not afraid to use it.
Comedian Steve Harvey kept the crowd in stitches! He is really hilarious. I was thrilled that he was able to host the event.

Miss Evelyn from Braxton Family Values had us rolling. She was very candid when talking to the audience and introducing her daughter Tamar. She couldn't remember the name of the organization so she kept asking the audience for a little help. She kept it very real! I loved it.

I am a "Tamartian" so I was super excited when Tamar Braxton hit the stage looking fierce as usual!

Tamar Braxton sang her new single "The One" and her #1 hit "Love & War". At the end of her performance she shared her testimony about how she had attempted to be successful in the music industry for many years and how she felt so blessed by her recent success. It was a very encouraging message to dreamers like myself. It just goes to show that a delay in making your dreams come true does not necessarily mean its a denial. It just may not be your time to shine. When your time arrives, no one can stop you from walking in your destiny!

Jennifer Hudson can be described in 2 words - A POWERHOUSE! I never was really a J.Hud fan but after hearing her in person, I am definitely a fan now! Her voice is like no other. I loved her rendition of "Be Grateful".

Unfortunately once Miss Hudson’s performance was over, the camera shut down.  Initially I was a little disappointed but it gave me time to live in the moment and not just record the moment.  My hubby and I were able to dance and sing along with the remaining artists. We had a blast!! We didn’t get back to our hotel until after 2am. I think that is the latest we have been out on a date in a long time. This has been my favorite date so far! I am so happy we decided to embark on this adventure together.  It has definitely helped us break free from the monotony of dinner and a movie.

What would you do with your significant other for a “C” date? I would love to hear your ideas!
